Taking inspiration from Japanese and Chinese cultures, Philippine brand WIP Caps announced the release of the Koi Fitted Baseball Cap. The term Koi is the Japanese word for carp, a fish that is popular to both countries.

It is believed to represent “courage, perseverance, and the ability to attain high goals.” Nakayama, graff artist, and WIP’s chief designer also got this inspiration from a piece of tattoo art.

In celebration of the Day of the Dead, WIP Caps has collaborated with up and coming Filipino graphic designer, YSO, to come up with the D.O.D. Fitted Baseball Cap. The cap is definitely interesting not only during the day of the dead, as it also shows rocking design, just apt for those who want to rock out the stage.

The artwork on this cap portrays that of “Western and Eastern images of skulls, showcasing the diverse international backgrounds” of the brand. There’s very intricate detailing throughout the graphic, and what’s more interesting about it is that it glows in the dark.

WIP’s latest fitted cap release, the MNL, is indeed another tribute for their homeland. MNL is actually the abbreviation for Manila, and everything in this cap is all about the capital city of the Philippines.

The subdued brown color way of this cap is not chosen for nothing; it is “selected for that no-nonsense earthy feel that accurately displays the grime and grit of the real Manila.” On the crown are printed silhouettes of famous monuments in the city and some graphics that simply represents the Philippines.

For the boxing fans out there, you probably have already heard of Manny Pacquiao. This WIP Pac-Q Fitted Basecall Cap is obviously a tribute for the Boxing Champion, who is also known as PacMan.  WIP was founded in 2007 by a group of high school friends in the Philippines, so it is very clear that this cap also has a nationalistic feel to it.
